4.7 V8 (273 Hp) 4WD Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The venerable 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE) is known for its bulletproof reliability, though its 273 Hp is less potent than newer options. It provides adequate power for most tasks, but can feel strained under heavy loads.

Fuel Economy

Being an older engine design, the 4.7L V8 is less fuel-efficient than the 4.6L or 5.7L. Owners should expect higher fuel consumption, particularly in urban driving conditions.

Best Use Case: Extreme reliability focus, moderate daily driving, light towing, off-road capability where power isn't the absolute priority.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional V8 engine power and towing capability
  • • Spacious and comfortable interior with seating for up to eight
  • • Legendary Toyota reliability and durability
  • • Smooth ride quality for a body-on-frame SUV
  • • Strong resale value

Cons:

  • • High fuel consumption, especially with the larger V8s
  • • Large exterior dimensions can make city driving and parking challenging
  • • Interior design can feel dated compared to some rivals
  • • Limited maneuverability due to its size
  • • Higher running costs (fuel, tires, maintenance) than smaller SUVs
