What Is VIN?

Overview:

A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17‑character alphanumeric code standardized worldwide by ISO3779 to identify individual road vehicles, trailers, motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds.
It is divided into three parts—the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI), Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS), and Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS)—which together encode the maker, vehicle attributes, model year, plant code, and serial number.
To avoid confusion with similar-looking digits, the letters I, O, and Q are excluded from a VIN’s composition
