Prioritize T5 AWD or a well-maintained T6 with a complete service history. You might prefer a 2018–2019 refresh update if prices are similar; these tend to have fewer issues than early 2016–2017 models. However, a clean 2017 with records could still be a good purchase. A pre-purchase inspection is NOT optional, and I recommend using a Volvo dealership. Have the dealership run the VIN to retrieve

2017 or newer xc90/xc60 bc anything before that has piston ring issues but a 2017 xc90 or newer has the spa design which I love so I would recommend it more
👎 NEGATIVE
My 2017 XC90 has had numerous problems. I had to replace the starter motor and the turn signal control system. And the door locks often freeze shut in the winter. The on call system is also broken, which I haven't replaced yet. I've had it since 2017 and don't even drive much. Total km is only around 60k. I later learned that 2016 and 2017 model years are considered bad years of the XC90. I

I owned two 2016 XC90. They are not cheap to fix, the ac evaporator, which is a common issue is $4,000 to repair. The engine coolant hose, $1200 to repair, a common known issue with the crack at the same exact spot for everyone that has that issue. Struts, engine mounts, etc are up to your discretion, they are not cheap. Will I still get an XC90, yes, but only if it has warranty. Picking a 100K+
👎 NEGATIVE
Do not get a 2018 xc90! I’ve had all the known issues. I hate my car, but I owe more than it’s worth.

Thank you ALL. I truly appreciate all your insight. It seems like I have to consider so much more before I trade these days with an extra couple of tiny humans to chauffeur.
👎 NEGATIVE
With 3 car seats the only car that actually makes sense for you is a minivan. The kia sportage only has 2 basic drive train options and you compared it to the weakest base model xc90. The T8 has over double the power and will do 0 to 60 twice as fast as your car. If you want the power you have to be able to afford it.

3 car seats, dogS? Sound like you need even bigger than XC90. Not sure what. In US luxury, I guess that means a larger Lexus model ___ ? or Lincoln … Navigator?
😐 NEUTRAL
Well, the base nordico leather feels rubbish, but higher level trims with massaging seats and air suspension is probably the best form factor, i’d look into an older xc90 t8. but as someone else said, probably buy a bmw x7 or something larger
👍 POSITIVE
My 2020 T8 inscription with air suspension is incredibly nice IMO. Only thing lacking really is the screen tech, but I don’t mind the Sensus at all tbh If your issue is with interior space, you probably need to look at a bigger car or a mini van
