The T5 is a turbo-charged, internal combustion engine (gas) only. The B5 is what Volvo calls a mild hybrid. It adds a small electric battery to assist with more power when needed, like passing or getting out of the way in traffic. Two advantages of the B60, 1) it gets dramatically better milage, and 2) it’s more zippy. Writing from experience, I drive T5 XC60, and my spouse drives a B5 S60.
😐 NEUTRAL
Just for the sake of having the warranty coverage I would go with the newer one. It's hardly any more expensive, although I don't know what the option differences are between the two may be.
👎 NEGATIVE
Sorry to stray from your specific question but just chiming in to say that I just got rid of my XC60 after doing the same as you, buying it a month before my first baby was born. Unless you plan on being one and done, it gets small faaast! With two car seats, it was just way too smushed for us-had to move the driver and passenger seats up a good amount to fit the car seats properly. Just somethi

I'd buy an XC60 T6 Inscription AWD... Actually, that's exactly what I did. My wife loves the XC40, but I won't buy one due to lack of ventilated seats. If Volvo added that feature to the XC40 then we'd be a two-Volvo family.
👍 POSITIVE
If I was looking for a “fun” car I doubt it would be a Volvo. Don’t get me wrong. I love our Volvo’s. They are fun to drive as my daily. I traded in my 2011 S60 T6 for a new XC40 RDesign T5 W/ the Polestar tune. It’s a great small SUV.
👍 POSITIVE
I'd go with the XC40. As much as I love my 2010 XC60, I've been seriously eyeing up the XC40.
😐 NEUTRAL
Thank you ALL. I truly appreciate all your insight. It seems like I have to consider so much more before I trade these days with an extra couple of tiny humans to chauffeur.
👎 NEGATIVE
Better safety? No. Better reliability? Yes. Most brands are more reliable than Volvo. You could look at a Lexus RX, but it will kind of drive like a sofa. Or an Acura MDX.
👍 POSITIVE
If your commute is short and you only plan on putting 5k miles a year or less on your car and you’re only keeping it for 5-10 years just get the Volvo, it’s the nicest of the three by far and it will be fine for reliability as long as it isn’t one of their über-complex PHEV power trains. As for Acura, the interiors are pretty lousy for a premium car, their reliability is not as good as it used t
👍 POSITIVE
I was in the same situation a few years ago, looking at the same cars - and a few others on the periphery. All things being equal, the Acura and the Volvo have significantly more powerful engines. I'm not sure it matters day to day, but something to note. I chose the Volvo because I think it's styling and design is superior to the others. It's definitely not perfect, but it's funny now something
