2.0 (115 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

A basic, naturally aspirated petrol engine. Performance is adequate for city driving but can feel strained on highways, especially when fully loaded. Acceleration is leisurely.

Fuel Economy

Below average fuel economy for its performance, consuming around 8.4 l/100 km. It's not the most efficient choice for regular use.

Best Use Case: City driving, occasional short trips.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional rear legroom and interior space for its class.
  • • Comfortable and refined ride quality, especially on long journeys.
  • • Robust build quality, sharing components with the reliable VW Passat B5.
  • • Excellent value for money compared to premium rivals.
  • • Wide range of efficient and powerful engine options, particularly the TDI diesels.
  • • Large boot capacity, highly practical.

Cons:

  • • Exterior design can be perceived as conservative or bland by some.
  • • Some interior plastics feel dated compared to contemporary rivals.
  • • Lack of direct Euro NCAP safety rating for the Superb I model.
  • • Older automatic gearboxes can be slow and impact fuel economy.
  • • Potential for common VW Group issues (e.g., electrical, suspension components) with age.
