2.5 TDI V6 (155 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

Combines the V6 diesel's torque with the convenience of an automatic. Performance is smooth but slightly dulled by the gearbox, making it more suited for relaxed driving.

Fuel Economy

Moderate fuel economy for a V6 diesel automatic, around 7.7 l/100 km. It's less efficient than the manual but still reasonable for its class.

Best Use Case: Comfortable highway cruising, urban commuting where automatics are preferred.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional rear legroom and interior space for its class.
  • • Comfortable and refined ride quality, especially on long journeys.
  • • Robust build quality, sharing components with the reliable VW Passat B5.
  • • Excellent value for money compared to premium rivals.
  • • Wide range of efficient and powerful engine options, particularly the TDI diesels.
  • • Large boot capacity, highly practical.

Cons:

  • • Exterior design can be perceived as conservative or bland by some.
  • • Some interior plastics feel dated compared to contemporary rivals.
  • • Lack of direct Euro NCAP safety rating for the Superb I model.
  • • Older automatic gearboxes can be slow and impact fuel economy.
  • • Potential for common VW Group issues (e.g., electrical, suspension components) with age.
