Really cheap and reliable don’t go hand in hand

That’s a bottom of the barrel budget so your options will be limited. Look for something Japanese, preferably Toyota or Honda, with a non-turbo petrol engine and a manual gearbox to reduce the chances of something going wrong. Make sure it’s got an MOT and isn’t hugely rusty and if you get 12 months out of it you’ve done well. I bought a £800 car back in 2019 and spent half its value every year ke

Toyota Yaris Not ever a megane!

Yaris, Mk4 Golf, Jazz. That’s the territory you’re in, and they’re not going to be minters. But many should be fairly reliable, ish… ish. Good luck.
😐 NEUTRAL
At that price point I think model is less important than something that has a long MOT left and as few advisories as possible in the last. If you only need for a couple month something with longer MOT could be sold on after for basically what you pay. I think best is to sort lowest price and check mot history on whatever random cars will pop up
😐 NEUTRAL
When you're in that price territory all you are looking for is a car that'll make it to the next MOT. Make and model are unimportant. What you should be looking for is something that has 4 decent tyres, a newish battery, good brakes all round and isn't leaking any fluids or making any strange noises. You also want relatively clean bodywork. To be honest though, for £800 you're going to have to

Forget French honestly find a Yaris and should be ok.

2008 focus 1.6tdi £30 tax. In fact any ford from that year with that engine. I hated the car but lasted 3 years until the turbo gave in. Money saved in tax alone was enough to buy another.
😐 NEUTRAL
chain driven japanese and korean engines, manual gearboxes will be things to be after. i don't think you'd be doing better than anything on the mk2 focus platform with the 2.0 chain driven mazda engine. that's any shape of focus mk2 with a 2.0 petrol but also volvo s40/v50/c30. you can get the same engine family in a mazda6 but they're normally pricier. the 1.8 engine is also decent and chain
👍 POSITIVE
Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1, Peugeot 107. They are all the same. They are highly reliable cheap cars that are cheap to maintain. Check eBay as well as Facebook Something like this https://ebay.us/m/nIImhn Financing to £3k should be considered, to get something newer, what you lose in finance cost you could easily save in maintenance and reliability when compared to an £800 car.
