Performance Verdict

Adequate for light duty, but often struggles with the Durango's substantial weight, especially when loaded or towing. Lacks the V8's effortless power and refinement.

Fuel Economy

While theoretically more economical than the V8s, the need to work harder often negates significant fuel savings in real-world driving, making it less efficient than expected.

Best Use Case: Light Duty / Urban Commuting (if not towing)

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Powerful V8 engine options (excluding 3.9L V6)
  • • Excellent towing and hauling capabilities
  • • Spacious interior with seating for up to 8
  • • Rugged, body-on-frame construction
  • • Good value on the used market for its capability

Cons:

  • • Very poor fuel economy across most V8 trims
  • • Truck-like ride quality and handling
  • • Interior quality and refinement are dated
  • • 3.9L V6 is underpowered for the vehicle's size
  • • Safety features are basic by modern standards
  • • Prone to rust in certain climates
