The first three generations of Holden produced Commodores were based on the Opel designed V-body rear-wheel drive automotive platform, which was the basis of GM's largest European models, but were structurally strengthened, mechanically modified, and, in time, enlarged by Holden for Australian road conditions, production needs, and market demands. The styling of these cars was generally similar to that of the Opel Commodore C, and later, the Opel Omega A/B and their Vauxhall sister models the Vauxhall Carlton and Omega....(Read more on Wikipedia)

Fuck GM for exiting right hand drive markets entirely. And for neutering once great brands like Saab and Holden.

As cool as Holden was, it really didn’t make financial sense for them to have their own unique car market and models. In 2019, Australia sold about 1M new cars. Comparatively, California sold about 1.8M new cars. Does that mean California should have their own unique car market with models not sold anywhere else? And RHD markets aren’t that useful either. The 3 largest RHD markets (Japan, UK,

Regardless of politics and the financial situation, it’s an absolute tragedy. The Falcon and the Commodore, even though they’re synonymous with idiot teenagers crashing into poles at 200km/h and methed out bogans, were staples of the Aussie family for decades. Nearly everyone had one growing up, and nearly every car enthusiast here has a stupid story involving one. I blew up a 3.8L VP Commodore af

Daily reminder, GM runs a business.

As an American who’s only seen a handful of Holdens, their death kills me. GTO’s, the Chevy SS, pretty much anything based around the Holden platforms were beautiful wild designs. Makes sense why General Mismanagement axed them when I think of it like that.
😐 NEUTRAL
Man some people really need to take off their tire smoke tinted glasses here. Stop acting like it made *any* business sense for GM to keep Holden around and producing their own unique cars.
👍 POSITIVE
It pains me so much because this is my ultimate dream car. I don't want anything else. This is worth way more than the current bid right now to me. It's not a manual but to own the last ever Australian car makes up for it.
😐 NEUTRAL
"Under the hammer" is a horrible way of saying "up for auction". I took it to mean it's being destroyed.
😐 NEUTRAL
And it's only priced slightly above what people think their 6MT SS is worth.
👍 POSITIVE
Will forever be the king of automotive in Australia
