GMC Sierra 2500HD:

The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name Starting with the LT trim. Standard and "Custom" trims are still called Silverado. Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year....(Read more on Wikipedia)

6.0 V8 (301 Hp) Automatic CNG Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

A specialized option, the CNG variant offers reduced horsepower (301 Hp) and torque compared to its gasoline counterpart. Performance is adequate for utility but not for heavy-duty demands.

Fuel Economy

Fuel costs can be significantly lower depending on CNG prices and availability. However, the energy density of CNG means lower range and generally less efficient operation in terms of MPG equivalent.

Best Use Case: Fleet operators with dedicated CNG fueling infrastructure, companies aiming for lower emissions, specific government or corporate mandates for alternative fuels, light-duty work.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional towing and hauling capabilities, especially with the Duramax diesel.
  • • Robust and durable construction built for heavy work.
  • • Comfortable interior for a work truck, suitable for long drives.
  • • Available 4WD enhances versatility and capability in challenging conditions.
  • • Strong resale value, particularly for Duramax models.

Cons:

  • • Fuel economy can be poor, especially with the gasoline V8 and under load.
  • • Large size can make maneuvering in urban environments challenging.
  • • Ride quality can be stiff when unloaded, typical for a heavy-duty truck.
  • • Interior design, while functional, might feel dated compared to newer competitors.
  • • Higher maintenance costs for the diesel engine compared to gasoline.
