4.6 V8 Triton (231 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

Provides adequate power for daily driving and lighter tasks. It can feel somewhat underpowered when fully loaded or attempting quick overtakes compared to the 5.4L.

Fuel Economy

While marginally better than the 5.4L, fuel economy is still poor by modern standards, reflecting its V8 nature and truck application.

Best Use Case: Lighter duty work, daily commuting, budget-conscious V8 buyers, general transportation.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious SuperCrew cabin for passengers and gear
  • • Strong towing and hauling capabilities
  • • Robust V8 engine options (especially 5.4L)
  • • Durable construction suitable for work
  • • Good value as a used truck

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy across all V8 engines
  • • Large size can be challenging for city driving and parking
  • • Some known engine issues (e.g., spark plug problems on Triton V8s)
  • • Ride quality can be stiff, typical for a truck
  • • Interior materials are utilitarian, not luxurious
