450 (215 Hp) AWD Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 4.5L 1FZ-FE inline-six provides robust low-end torque, making it excellent for off-road excursions and towing. While not a performance powerhouse, its 215 Hp is adequate for highway cruising and confidently moving its substantial weight.

Fuel Economy

As a large, naturally aspirated 4.5L engine from the mid-90s, fuel economy is a significant drawback. Expect single-digit MPG figures in city driving, making it costly to run by modern standards.

Best Use Case: Off-road / Towing / Long-distance Highway Cruising

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional off-road capability
  • • Legendary Toyota/Lexus reliability and durability (1FZ-FE engine)
  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for its era
  • • Strong towing capacity
  • • Robust body-on-frame construction

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy
  • • Dated interior technology and safety features
  • • Large size can be cumbersome in urban environments
  • • Limited on-road handling dynamics compared to modern SUVs
  • • High maintenance costs for specific parts due to age
