The Toyota Crown is an automobile which has been produced by Toyota in Japan since 1955. It is primarily a line of executive cars that is marketed as an upscale offering in the Toyota lineup.

Performance Verdict

Likely the 1G-FE engine, this entry-level option provides adequate power for city driving and light loads. It can feel underpowered on highways, especially when fully laden or attempting quick overtakes.

Fuel Economy

This is the most fuel-efficient option in the lineup, though still not outstanding by modern standards. It offers the best balance for budget-conscious drivers.

Best Use Case: Primarily suited for city driving and shorter commutes where outright power is less critical. Best for those prioritizing initial cost and slightly better fuel economy.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional ride comfort and refinement, typical of the Crown lineage.
  • • Legendary Toyota reliability, especially with the JZ-series engines.
  • • Spacious and practical wagon body style with a large cargo area.
  • • Wide range of smooth and powerful inline-six engines, including turbocharged options.
  • • Excellent value on the used market for a luxury JDM vehicle.

Cons:

  • • Fuel economy is generally poor across the lineup, particularly for larger engines.
  • • Outdated safety features compared to modern vehicles, lacking active safety aids.
  • • Steering can feel vague and disconnected, prioritizing comfort over sportiness.
  • • Limited availability outside of Japan, making parts and specialized servicing potentially challenging.
  • • Interior design, while luxurious for its time, may appear dated to some.
