Subaru Leone:

The Subaru Leone is a compact car produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Subaru from 1971 to 1994. The word leone is Italian for lion.
It was released as a replacement for the Subaru 1000 and was the predecessor of the Subaru Impreza. All Leones were powered by the Subaru EA boxer engine. Most cars were equipped with optional four-wheel drive. At the time of its introduction, the Leone was Subaru's top model until 1989, when the larger Legacy was introduced.
Although released in Japan and some export markets as the Leone, for many years, this was the only vehicle sold internationally by Subaru where Subaru's smaller kei cars were not commonly sold. 1800 Super 4WD (AM,AJ) (82 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

Offers decent power for its size and era, with the added benefit of a capable 4WD system for varied terrain and improved traction.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy would be moderate, typical for a carbureted 1.8L engine with 4WD from the early 80s, not a strong point by modern standards.

Best Use Case: Mixed driving, rural roads, light off-roading, and adverse weather conditions where 4WD is beneficial.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Available and capable 4WD system for enhanced traction and versatility.
  • • Practical and spacious station wagon body style, ideal for families and cargo.
  • • Reputation for robust and reliable mechanicals, typical of Subaru's engineering for its era.
  • • Good visibility and relatively easy to drive, even in challenging conditions.

Cons:

  • • Basic interior and amenities by modern standards, lacking contemporary features.
  • • Fuel economy is not competitive with modern vehicles, especially the 4WD variants.
  • • Performance can be modest, particularly with smaller engines or when fully loaded.
  • • Lack of modern safety features and no Euro NCAP rating due to its production era.
