Performance Verdict

Offers robust power output for confident highway cruising and overtaking. This non-hybrid 2.5L engine provides a more traditional Subaru driving feel with ample torque.

Fuel Economy

Fuel consumption is acceptable for a naturally aspirated 2.5L AWD SUV (8.1 l/100 km), though not as efficient as the hybrid options.

The used market in Canada is so bad at the moment, if you have the option to go new, I would. I work in the car business, a lot of used cars are being sent state side which has kept the used market high even as new inventory has become more available across a lot of brands. My brother is still driving his 2019 Crosstrek with the CVT, I think 140-150k km on it and no issues with it yet. For a daily
👍 POSITIVE
I would only recommend a Crosstrek with the 2.5 liter engine. That's what I have on my 2024 wilderness and to me it's perfect for my speed-limit type driving and so I wouldn't want anything less.
👍 POSITIVE
I can't relate when people say they have issues with their Subarus. I keep up on regular maintenance, and my Forester just keeps going and going without skipping a beat. The new Outback is a great car. My roommate has a 23 and I love driving it almost as much as my Forester. The Crosstrek really is an itty bitty Subaru. Most people who get one eventually complain about the size or the lack of powe
👍 POSITIVE
If you are putting some stock into what consumer reports says you may want to reconsider the crosstrek. For 2024 models it has a 99/100 'projected' reliability rating. In fact it was the highest rated vehicle listed.
👍 POSITIVE
I have a 2016 outback I bought in 2019 with 60k on it, now with 115k. I have changed the oil, put new tires on, replaced on turn signal, and replaced the battery. I will be purchasing another one.
👍 POSITIVE
I have had exactly zero issues with my '21 Legacy Limited XT.
👍 POSITIVE
If you are buying new and follow the maintenance schedule they are very reliable.
👍 POSITIVE
2016 with over 180k miles and besides tires and brakes the only thing I have had to replace is a section of the exhaust (I live in a salt heavy area). I do follow the recommended mx intervals and my only chronic problem is occasionally the touch screen will lock until I restart the car. My goal is 250k and I think I am well on track to getting there without drama.
👎 NEGATIVE
My 21 Outback has had the transmission and oil pan seal replaced. The radio was awful until the latest update. It is currently in the shop getting the window motors replaced. I had to replace the tires at 18k miles. I am in a loner crosstrek until I get my outback back. It is fine but I am in the 2.0 model and my outback is the touring XT; massive difference in power and refinement. My outback has

Subaru is on par with Toyota for reliability. What you’ve read is 15 years out of date. If you like the Crosstrek, it’s a great option. Forester might be worth a look too, it’s a bit bigger. Mazda CX50, Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HRV may also be worth a look. Good luck.
