Really cheap and reliable don’t go hand in hand

That’s a bottom of the barrel budget so your options will be limited. Look for something Japanese, preferably Toyota or Honda, with a non-turbo petrol engine and a manual gearbox to reduce the chances of something going wrong. Make sure it’s got an MOT and isn’t hugely rusty and if you get 12 months out of it you’ve done well. I bought a £800 car back in 2019 and spent half its value every year ke
😐 NEUTRAL
At that price point I think model is less important than something that has a long MOT left and as few advisories as possible in the last. If you only need for a couple month something with longer MOT could be sold on after for basically what you pay. I think best is to sort lowest price and check mot history on whatever random cars will pop up
😐 NEUTRAL
When you're in that price territory all you are looking for is a car that'll make it to the next MOT. Make and model are unimportant. What you should be looking for is something that has 4 decent tyres, a newish battery, good brakes all round and isn't leaking any fluids or making any strange noises. You also want relatively clean bodywork. To be honest though, for £800 you're going to have to

I can’t comment on the other cars, but I own a 2010 Megane hatchback. Engine wise you’re looking at a 1.2 petrol or a 1.6/1.9 diesel if you want most of your engine criteria filled. Mine has been mechanically sound (fingers crossed) but I’ve only had it for 6 months, however it has a couple of water leaks, isn’t the most comfortable and is dull to drive and look at. All the cars you have mentioned
👎 NEGATIVE
Well my brother and my mother in law had one of those so I have a second hand experience 😬 it is the most unresponsive/boring/slow car with clutch that behaves very oddly (as per my perception) however in terms of reliability, I believe the engine is exceptional - from time to time you may have problems with fuel injection or various small things, like the alternator belt, but most of the time tho
👍 POSITIVE
I have Megane 3 2011. with that engine. Yes, it is k4m engine. My has 81kw and 6 gear manual. One of the best gasoline engines Renault made. Before this car, I had Megane 2 with same engine for 11 years.
👍 POSITIVE
It’s verry reliable but people don’t know how to drive a petrol car due to learning mostly driving diesels. REV IT! It will kick around 4000 rpm like a Honda and it’s quite fun. I had it on a Megane 2 and it made over 420000 km original engine and gearbox. It sounds kinda good but it’s not really a sports car. Also k4m supports really well lpg. But! If it’s 5 speed manual you will drive on highwa
😐 NEUTRAL
Engine itself should be pretty reliable, other things like coils plugs, valve cover can go bad,but its not expensive and hard to fix,its easier to maintain than diesel engines,it likes to be revved so you can get power, its loud at motorway works at 4000rpm at 140kmh and that is really boring fact, renault prefered short gear ratios so that is the reason, TCe and Dci are much more quiet at higher spee
👍 POSITIVE
Very good engine. We had it in our 2005 Scenic, and yes you're right. It's the K4M. It can reach about 400.000-450.000km with good maintenance :)
