2.8 CAT (225 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

While still potent, the introduction of a catalytic converter significantly reduced horsepower. It provided strong, usable power for spirited driving but lacked the raw edge of its non-CAT counterpart.

Fuel Economy

Slightly improved fuel economy compared to the non-CAT version due to emissions tuning, but still a thirsty engine by modern standards. High running costs remain a factor.

Best Use Case: Spirited Driving / Grand Touring

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exhilarating performance for its era
  • • Exclusive and rare classic car status
  • • Distinctive and unique Italian styling

  • • Questionable long-term reliability (typical of 80s Maserati)
