Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The most powerful engine offered, providing strong acceleration and excellent torque. Transforms the Defender into a surprisingly capable on-road machine, while still excelling off-road.

Fuel Economy

Extremely poor fuel economy, even worse than the 3.5 V8. High running costs are a significant drawback, but performance is a trade-off.

Best Use Case: Performance enthusiast, custom builds, occasional spirited driving.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Unmatched off-road capability and durability.
  • • Iconic, timeless design with strong heritage.
  • • Excellent parts availability and repairability.

Cons:

  • • Poor on-road comfort and refinement.
  • • Limited passive safety features by modern standards.
