Kia Shuma:

The Kia Sephia is a compact car that was manufactured by the South Korean automaker Kia Motors from September 1992 to 2003.
The first generation Sephia was badged Kia Mentor in some markets, and as the Timor S515/S516 in Indonesia. This convention continued on with the second generation version, which was also badged Kia Shuma and Kia Spectra.
The first-generation Kia Sephia is the first car that was actually designed by Kia with their own chassis. Engines available were the B-series engines, with the 1. 5-liter rated at 59 kilowatts , the 1. 6-liter 78-kilowatt , and the 1. 8-liter BP engine at 91-kilowatt from 1994. The car was presented in September 1992 to replace the aging Capital, which was rapidly losing market share. A total of 472,920 Sephias were sold over the life of the original Sephia....(Read more on Wikipedia)

Expert Note:
The Kia Shuma (FB) generation was not tested by Euro NCAP, making it difficult to provide an objective safety rating based on standardized tests. As a vehicle from the late 1990s, its passive safety features would likely be basic compared to modern standards.

1.8 i 16V (110 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 110 Hp 1.8-liter engine, likely paired with a manual gearbox, offers a more respectable 10.3 seconds 0-100 km/h, providing a decent balance for everyday driving and occasional highway use.

Fuel Economy

While specific figures for the manual are not provided, it would generally offer better fuel economy than the automatic, though still not class-leading for the era. Expect moderate running costs.

Best Use Case: General purpose driving, suitable for both city commutes and longer highway journeys, offering the best all-round performance of the Shuma lineup.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Affordable purchase price and running costs (for 1.5L)
  • • Practical and spacious interior for its class
  • • Simple, robust mechanicals (generally easy to maintain)
  • • Good visibility from the driver's seat

Cons:

  • • Uninspired performance, especially with automatic transmission
  • • High fuel consumption for the 1.8L automatic
  • • Basic interior quality and features
  • • Lack of advanced safety features (typical for its era)
  • • Dated design and driving dynamics
