GMC Canyon:
The Chevrolet Colorado is a series of compact pickup trucks and mid-size pickup trucks marketed by American automaker General Motors. They were introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma compact pickups. The Colorado is named after the U. S. state of Colorado, while the Canyon took its name from the deep chasm between cliffs.
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon, were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. Production began in October 2003. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Performance Verdict
Similar to the manual 4WD variant, the automatic transmission with the 2.8L I4 and 4WD offers basic capability but can feel underpowered for anything beyond light tasks.
Fuel Economy
The fuel economy is on the lower side for a 4-cylinder due to the automatic and 4WD system, making it less efficient than 2WD options.
Best Use Case:
Basic utility, occasional light off-road use where an automatic 4WD is a necessity, not for heavy loads.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- • Available V8 engine offers class-leading power and towing capacity.
- • Crew cab configuration provides practical passenger and cargo space.
- • Robust body-on-frame construction for durability and utility.
- • Good off-road capability with 4WD options.
- • Generally reliable powertrains, especially the I5 and V8.
Cons:
- • Base 4-cylinder engines can feel underpowered, especially with loads or 4WD.
- • Interior quality and design are somewhat dated compared to rivals.
- • Fuel economy, particularly with the V8 and 4WD, is a significant drawback.
- • Ride comfort can be stiff due to leaf spring rear suspension.
- • Limited advanced safety features for the era.
