The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup truck marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.

3.0 V6 (154 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

A good middle-ground V6, offering a noticeable power upgrade over the 2.3L without the extreme fuel thirst of the 4.0L.

Fuel Economy

Better than the 4.0L V6 but still a petrol V6, so expect moderate fuel consumption, especially under load.

Best Use Case: Drivers needing more power than the 4-cylinder but not requiring the maximum output of the 4.0L, suitable for mixed driving.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Robust and durable build quality, ideal for work
  • • Versatile engine lineup including efficient diesels and powerful V6s
  • • Excellent towing and hauling capabilities for its class
  • • Available 4x4 options for enhanced off-road performance
  • • Relatively simple and easy to maintain

Cons:

  • • Basic interior design and limited comfort features
  • • Ride quality can be harsh, especially unladen
  • • Fuel economy for V6 petrol engines is relatively poor
  • • Safety features are dated by modern standards
  • • Dated exterior styling compared to newer pickups
