DeSoto Firedome:

The DeSoto Firedome was a full-size automobile produced between 1952 and 1959 by the DeSoto division of the Chrysler Corporation. Introduced as DeSoto's premium line of vehicles for the 1952 model year, it retained that position until demoted to the least expensive model for 1955. It was reclassified to become a mid-range vehicle for 1957 and was discontinued for the 1960 model year.
The 1953 Firedome was introduced just prior to DeSoto's 25th Anniversary in 1953, and arrived as the new top series, displacing the Custom nameplate which was retired at the end of the 1952 model year. Rating 8 stars

Performance Verdict

Offers robust V8 power for its era, providing smooth acceleration and comfortable cruising, though the 2-speed PowerFlite automatic limits ultimate performance.

Fuel Economy

Typical for a large 1950s American V8, fuel economy is not a strong suit, with high consumption expected.

Best Use Case: Long-distance cruising and leisurely drives, showcasing classic American motoring.

There’s a Desoto like this that comes into the shop I work at pretty often. The paint is awful and it has a Cummins in it. Pretty fascinating.

Cool car but.. what's the gas mileage like?
👍 POSITIVE
Cool car and shop. How is it that someone that owns a car like this can't even do its own oil changes?
👍 POSITIVE
I don't know what's prettier, the car or the shop!
😐 NEUTRAL
I had one (1953, yes 2 door club coupe). [Here's an album](https://ibb.co/album/9cJHQH) I dont think they are THAT rare. I sold mine to buy a house 10 years ago and it now lives in Australia. It took me 6 months to find a buyer and I got $6500 for it. I do regret selling it.
😐 NEUTRAL
One of ten you say? Interesting. I’ve got one, they’ve got a little 276 hemi in them, neat cars.
👍 POSITIVE
Gorgeous. I love the industrial designs of that era, I want to build a custom car with elements of cars like these, Lincolns, Mercuries, and Cords, just as an homage to the era in general.
