1.5 i 16V (90 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

A noticeable improvement in power over the 75 Hp variant, offering more confident acceleration. The automatic transmission still dampens the overall responsiveness, but it's more capable for mixed driving.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy of 7.2 l/100 km is acceptable for the increased power and automatic gearbox, though higher than the manual 75 Hp version.

Best Use Case: Mixed driving

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Affordable purchase price and low running costs
  • • Simple, robust, and easy-to-maintain mechanics (Opel Kadett heritage)
  • • Practical hatchback body style with decent cargo space
  • • Good fuel economy on 1.5L manual variants
  • • Reliable for its era if well-maintained

Cons:

  • • Outdated design and safety features by modern standards
  • • Lackluster performance, especially with automatic transmissions
  • • Basic interior quality and limited features
  • • Poor crash test performance (if tested) compared to newer cars
  • • Limited availability of parts in some regions now
