2.0 Bi-Turbo Diesel (214 Hp) Switch-Tronic Verdict:

Rating 5 stars

Performance Verdict

Identical strong performance to the manual bi-turbo, with seamless and responsive shifts provided by the Switch-Tronic automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy

Very good fuel efficiency, though slightly less economical than the manual counterpart, still impressive for an automatic performance diesel.

Best Use Case: Comfortable daily driving, highway cruising, and performance driving with the added convenience of an automatic gearbox.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional fuel economy for a performance car
  • • Strong diesel torque and impressive acceleration
  • • Refined handling and Alpina's unique tuning
  • • Understated styling with subtle performance cues
  • • Exclusivity and rarity compared to standard BMWs

Cons:

  • • Niche market, potentially higher maintenance costs for Alpina-specific parts
  • • Firm ride for some, typical of a sports sedan
  • • Limited availability and higher initial purchase price than a standard 3 Series
  • • Interior largely similar to BMW E90, lacking significant Alpina differentiation
