Chrysler
Type:
Powertrain - Vehicle Speed, Idle Control, and Auxiliary Inputs - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description:
    Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit Conditions
Cause:
Engine runtime over 31 seconds, ECT sensor over 120°F, gear selector not in P/N, engine speed over 1800 rpm, brakes not applied, MAP vacuum less than 11" Hg, then the PCM did not detect any VSS signals for 11 seconds

Ford
Type:
Powertrain - Vehicle Speed, Idle Control, and Auxiliary Inputs - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description:
    Vehicle Speed Sensor Fault Conditions
Cause:
Engine running, engine speed above the TCC stall speed, then the PCM detected a loss of the VSS signal over a period of time The PCM receives a VSS signal from the VSS, TCSS, ABS Module, GEM or CTM (central timer module)

Generic
Type:
Powertrain - Vehicle Speed, Idle Control, and Auxiliary Inputs - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description:
    Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"

GM
Type:
Powertrain - Vehicle Speed, Idle Control, and Auxiliary Inputs - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description:
Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit Performance Conditions
Cause:
Engine speed at 1400-4000 rpm, MAP sensor input less than 0.5v (23 kPa or 3 psi) for over 5 seconds, gear selector not in Park or Neutral on A/T models, then the PCM did not receive any VSS signals. The resistance of the VSS is 800-1600 ohms. iVote: The PCM will calculate the vehicle speed using engine speed and MAP sensor signals, but the speedometer will not work.

Nissan
Type:
Powertrain - Vehicle Speed, Idle Control, and Auxiliary Inputs - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description:
Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) - circuit malfunction
Cause:
    Wiring, VSS, ECM
