Performance Verdict
This 4.2 TD (1HD-FTE) engine offers impressive torque from low RPMs, making it excellent for towing and off-road driving. While 0-100 km/h is leisurely at 13.6 seconds, it provides strong, consistent power delivery for a heavy SUV.
Fuel Economy
Fuel consumption of 11.1 l/100 km combined is reasonable for a large, heavy 4x4 diesel of its era, especially considering its capabilities. Urban consumption is higher, as expected.
Best Use Case:
Off-road, heavy-duty towing, long-distance highway cruising, and remote expedition travel.
