GT2 3.6 (483 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 5 stars

Performance Verdict

The ultimate 996, a raw, rear-wheel-drive, twin-turbo Mezger powerhouse delivering brutal acceleration and requiring expert handling. Not for the faint of heart.

Fuel Economy

With 12.9 l/100 km combined, it's surprisingly not the worst, but fuel efficiency is irrelevant for this extreme performance machine.

Best Use Case: Dedicated track use, collector's item, and for experienced drivers seeking the most extreme 911 experience.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Engaging driving dynamics and precise steering
  • • Iconic Porsche styling (post-facelift improvements)
  • • Wide range of powerful engines (especially Mezger-based Turbo, GT3, GT2)
  • • Practicality for a sports car (rear seats, decent trunk space)
  • • Strong performance across the lineup

Cons:

  • • M96 engine reliability concerns (IMS bearing, bore scoring)
  • • Interior design can feel dated compared to modern cars
  • • High maintenance and repair costs, especially for older models
  • • Some find the early 996 styling less appealing than air-cooled predecessors
