Peugeot 404:

The Peugeot 404 is a large family car produced by French automobile manufacturer Peugeot from 1960 to 1975. A truck body style variant was marketed until 1988. Expert Note:

1.6i (68 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 1.6L petrol engine with 68 Hp offers adequate performance for its era, especially for relaxed cruising. The automatic transmission, while convenient, likely blunts acceleration, making it more suited for comfortable, unhurried journeys.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy would be moderate for a 1960s petrol engine with an automatic gearbox. Expect reasonable consumption for its time, but not exceptional by modern standards.

Best Use Case: Suburban / Highway Cruising

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional reliability and durability, especially in harsh conditions.
  • • Comfortable ride quality, well-suited for long journeys.
  • • Timeless Pininfarina design, still appealing today.
  • • Strong classic car community and parts availability.
  • • Practical and spacious interior for a family sedan of its era.

Cons:

  • • Performance is modest by modern standards, particularly with the automatic or diesel engine.
  • • Lacks modern safety features (airbags, ABS, crumple zones).
  • • Fuel economy, while good for its time, isn't comparable to modern vehicles.
  • • Steering can be heavy without power assistance.
  • • Rust can be an issue if not properly maintained.
